Reipe Chair in Constitutional Law, University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law PanelistsPeggy Hutchison, Executive Director, The Primavera Foundation Issues Peggy will address include prisoner re-entry and community reintergration as they relate to poverty. She will also speak to community reinvestment strategies that are restorative in nature. Nina Rabin, Director of Border Research, Southwest Institute for Research on Women, Tuson and Adjunct Assistant Professor, University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law Nina teaches courses on citizenship and advocacy. Her focus at the forum will be how gender and immigration status contribute to poverty. Paul D. Bennett, Clinical Professor of Law & Director of the Child Advocacy Clinic, The University of Arizona, James E. Roger College of Law Paul will focus on the relationship between poverty, substance abuse and juvenile court involvement and, secondly, the effects on children's education. He will also speak to the Juvenile Court efforts to improve educational outcomes for children and to engage the community in supporting drug/ alcohol involved families. Barbara Atwood, Mary Anne Richey Professor of Law, The University of Arizona, James E. Roger College of Law Barbara will talk about how poverty intersects with family law and family dysfunction. Economic class is an indicator of a number of things: births to unmarried mothers, child abuse and neglect rates, inadequate medical care for children, lack of representation in divorce court, and child support noncompliance. She will identify some possible systematic reforms by looking to what's happening in some western European nations. Ruth W. Brinkely, President/CEO, Carondelet Health Network and West Ministry Market Leader, Ascension Health Access to healthcare for the poor is one of the main aspects of Carondelet’s mission and is contained in their “Call to Action” that Health Care is Safe” and “Health Care That Leaves No One Behind”. Ruth will address health care to the poor and disadvantaged. |
